Attendance Requirement in College Essay

Attending college is supposed to signify freedom to make choices regarding education. However, many students who plans to continue their education realize that college does not give this freedom. In some countries, college students are expected to attend classes that they have register. However, should attendance be mandatory in college? Even though some believe that college attendance should be flexible, I believe that college attendance should be mandatory. The first reason why college attendance should be mandatory is the lack of understanding. For example, Students who attend regularly classes have better opportunity to understand the courses what are done in class, while students who do not attend classes will not understand. Also, because students who attend regularly the classes understand the courses, they have a better chance to have good grades during test. On the contrary, students who do not attend classes, and do not understand the courses; they get bad grades during test. Indeed, college attendance should be mandatory to help all the students understand the courses. Another reason why college attendance should be mandatory is it build relationships. College attendance build relation between students and students. In college, there is many ways to meet friends that you can count on in the future such as joining a club, or in class. Students who do not attend college classes will not have these opportunities. College also build relation between students and teachers. Students who attend classes have the opportunity to know their teachers. Teachers have the same opportunity to know their students, and that relation between them will help the teachers to know the students’ lacks and find ways to help them. On the other hand, students who do not attend school will be stuck with his lacks. Opponents believe that mandatory attendance policies does not go under life lesson categories. If students do not show up at the classes, they register that will not affect them in the real world. However, I believe it does go under life lesson categories. If students get into the habit of not showing at classes, they register that will affect them in the real world. For example, if you do not show at work, you will be fired. College attendance should be mandatory to avoid that habit. In conclusion, College attendance should be mandatory to help students understand their course, to build relationship between students/ students and students/ teacher and to avoid bad habit. Nowadays, many students are skipping classes. In my opinion, college attendance should be mandatory.

Random Acts of Kindness

During one of my Online Facebook sessions, I was watching a video on random acts of kindness called â€Å"Validation†, it reminded me that performing random acts of kindness like simply complimenting people is something that I need to incorporate more into my life on a regular basis. I actually had a warm feeling inside knowing that many people have done so many kind things to me. I too have done many kind things to others; but, I had still not decided to incorporate this small thing into my life. I immediately realized that life is about being a blessing to others; however, there are times when people need to see tangible things done for them.When we give things that are tangible, it is one way to help others see Christ in us. I found out that there are many ways to show random acts of kindness. I had the opportunity to put this concept into action in several ways since our last class. On November 3rd 2013 I experienced firsthand what a difference I can make in young children ’s lives by spending time with them and telling them about a wonderful savior that has a given a free gift and that all we have to do is except him into our lives.I and my family lived in the Central part of Beavercreek Oregon in a 1800 square foot house on an eighth of an acre. We had a pretty good life as kids and there was always food on the table in our house. At the age of 18 I had decided to get involved in my church I had been attending for a little over a year. I talked to the pastor and got a hold of the Children’s ministry Pastor and she set me up to help with a class 4 days later. When I stepped into the classroom I immediately was overwhelmed with joy and a heart serve really serve these young children.After that first day I had many compliments about what an amazing impact I had on these kids and I now volunteer every other week there. Remember that your life can make a huge impact on people young and old. We have a savior that died for us on a cross and w e should return that favor by serving others. I hope you are impacted by this essay in someway and that you can start to make a difference in your community. As a you follower of God I have learned that through prayer and trust in the lord that he knows what is right for all of his children that we can make a difference.If we rely on God and not on our own understanding we are destined for success. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever would believe in him would not perish but have everlasting life. All we have to except this free gift that God has given us and you will be saved. God sent his only son Jesus to come down to this earth to die on the cross for our sins so we can have the hope of heaven and not have to a die a horrible death. Secondly, trees are naturally equipped to absorb the CO2 from their surroundings; this natural cycle is disturbed when the trees are no longer present to absorb CO2. Opinion Portfolio Essay 1. Are the media a real cause of violence and crime, or do they simply report what they see? The Media does not create the news it merely reports it.   It sensationalizes events, but cannot take responsibility for its impact on viewers.   In general the media has a responsibility which is married to society’s right to the free flow of information.   The irresponsible manner in which the media reports information can have both a deterrent and encouraging impact on the masses. But in the end criminal conduct is a creature of conscience and each member of society is responsible for his own conscience.   The greatest fault that can be attributed to the media’s role in reporting violence and crime is one of desensitizing the viewing public. 2. Should the media be used to fight crime? The media is viewed as an instrument of social control and in that sense it can and should be used to fight crime.   The key to successful detection, investigation and prosecution of criminal conduct is primarily attributed to information sharing.   The mere nature of the mass media’s role in information sharing puts it in a unique position to influence the commission of crimes.   The freedom of the press can be exploited to such an extent so as to reduce recidivism in a number of useful arenas and to deter criminal conduct in general. 3. Should the exclusionary rule be abolished? The exclusionary rule exists as a safeguard against public abuse of powers in respect of innocent persons.   All evidence presented at a criminal trial is required to be relevant.   If evidence is collected in an arbitrary manner it becomes suspect and therefore not relevant to the issue of guilt or innocence.   This is so because its probative value is outweighed by its prejudicial effect. When one piece of evidence is tainted it has the capacity to taint all other evidence no matter how relevant it is even if that other evidence was collected and preserved with integrity.   It is therefore essential that the exclusionary rule remain a part of the criminal justice process. Does a racial disparity exist in regard to the application of the death penalty? Many surveys conclude that blacks are more likely to receive the death penalty than whites while just as many surveys reveal that whites are more likely to receive the death penalty than blacks.   The end result is that the surveys merely reflect the demographic variables relative to the specific surveys conducted and do not reflect a prejudiced criminal justice system. 5. Are sexual assault cases under prosecuted? Sufficient data exist to support a contention that sexual assault cases are indeed under prosecuted.   This fact is married to the fact that sexual assault cases are by and large under reported.   Experts conclude that the under reporting and under prosecuting of sexual assault cases is directly linked to society’s general view that sexual assault only happens to others and the survivor’s reputation and credibility becomes as central to any sexual assault prosecution as does the suspect’s. 6. Should parole be abolished? Parole by its very nature is an important tool for the reintegration of the offender into society.   A prisoner has to meet very structured requirements in order to be eligible for parole. If parole is abolished a very important element necessary for the success of rehabilitation within the criminal justice system would be compromised. 7. Does the Patriot Act infringe on civil liberties? The Patriot Act was passed in response to national security issues following the September 11 terrorist attacks on US soil.   It is fails to adequately balance the need for increased protection of the homeland and citizens ‘right to protection of the law in respect of civil liberties.   Under the fear of increased statutory government powers of surveillance, search, seizure and arrests the Patriot Act may have by application given citizens more reasons to fear acts of terrorism against a government who has as its agenda the deterrence, detection and prevention of terrorism. 8. Is the US prepared for acts of terror or national emergencies? The United States is as prepared for acts of terror or national emergencies as much as it is possible to be prepared.   The requisite laws have been passed increasing police and government powers and certainly the United States has in place a military and medical response mechanism that can cope with practically any level of national emergencies. The unpredictable nature of terrorism and national emergencies makes it impossible for any nation to have a perfect response system in place.   The United States is no exception.

Napoleon Bonaparte and the French Revolution

Napoleon Bonaparte and the French Revolution Napoleon, the solider, son of the Revolution, or so he called himself, staged a coup dà ©tat like nothing ever seen before. France was in a chaotic and conflict-filled time and was in need for an individual who could guide the French people and the state to stability and order. General Napoleon Bonaparte brought France out of uncertainty and remained close to the ideas of the French Revolution by rejoining France to foundation of laws, agreements, security and much more. He gave the French people both individual and collective rights and freedoms that freed them from ties with the Old Regime. Though there was been much debate on the question of whether Napoleon was the conclusion, extension or betrayal of the French Revolution, a definite answer has yet to surface. Answers vary based on the outlook of France during the time. Outsiders often tend to consider Napoleon as a threat, and therefore think that his authoritative reign betrayed the Revolution. Citizens in France, however, sa w him as a liberator who freed them from the grip of the Old Regime and created a stable order in France  [ii]  . Historians who analyze both the French Revolution and the reign of Bonaparte are at conflict with one another to decide if he belonged to the Revolution and enforced its ideals, or contradicted them through his actions. After close examination of his reign of France and analyzing his actions, implementation of policies, agreements and legal codes, and externally promoting Revolution ideas and concepts, it is seen that Bonaparte did not betray the French Revolution after all. Napoleon Bonaparte was rather the extension of the Revolution during his reign as Emperor of France, as he promoted and implemented ideas such as equality, liberty and fraternity, which lead to a reinforcement of revolutionary concepts that allowed individual and collective freedoms and rights to benefit the French society. Although an absolute answer to answer whether or not Napoleon betrayed the revolution, continued it or concluded it is yet to be affirmed, there is widespread belief that Napoleon was a betrayer of the Revolution, as he had a very authoritative reign. However, an opposing view of the majority belief that Napoleon betrayed the revolution or that his reign concluded it is held by Louis Bergeron, author of France Under Napoleon. He argues that France was facing much instability and uncertainty on the outcome of war and unity of the nation, and therefore, needed a strong man like Napoleon, who in return preserved and continued the ideals of the revolution through his enforcement of civil equalities, the destruction of feudalism, and the ruin of the privileged position of the Catholic Church  [iii]  . Upon close examination of the Napoleonic Code, it is determined that the ideals of the Revolution on the fate of the old nobility are the same rules in the Civil Code, which fixed the co nditions for the exercise of property rights and equality rights  [iv]  . Ideals of the Revolution such as equality and liberty are seen in this primary source, which convey a Napoleon Bonaparte who continued the Revolution. Even through the signing of the Concordat by Pope Pius VII, Napoleon managed to balance the state-church relationship by granting the Roman Catholic Church as the majority church, but still embodied Revolution ideals of equality and liberty by not allowing Catholicism to be the state religion and enforcing a freedom of religion  [v]  . Through the examination of the Concordat, one can see more Revolution ideals being integrated into French society and promoted by Bonaparte. Though this response is against widespread agreement of Bonapartes betrayal of the French Revolution, it does provide facts of certain actions made by him to promote the ideals of the French Revolution. This is a disagreement on popular belief but still proved through examples of prop erty rights, equality rights, and religious freedoms. On the other hand, Thomas Jefferson claims that Napoleon Bonaparte was the destroyer of the French Republic and a pariah to him because of his impracticability to establish a republic and his irrational belief that he is able to run a self-government when in reality, he is a man who lets power deprave him  [vi]  . This view is quite popular and widespread for observers outside of France. It was only the people of France who saw Napoleon as a strong leader, while others saw him as a fearful authoritative man who cared less for the ideals of the Revolution and more for his personal gains. This view is quite accurate for an observer, as Thomas Jefferson is writing from the point of view of an American man. This affects his perspective on the topic because a bias exists due to the increasing developments in France and military gains by Napoleon, which perceive him as a threat. The disagreement between the views of Bergeron and Je fferson is more about weighing certain actions of Napoleon to stretch more towards a conclusion, extension or betrayal of the French Revolution. For instance, Bergeron believes that Napoleon extended the Revolution due to his strong participation in enforcing civil liberties and equalities for people, however, Jefferson believes that his role in accepting the title of Emperor goes against the ideals of the Revolution, and he is therefore betraying it. Affirming Napoleons continuation of the French Revolution is Henry Banks, who believes that Bonaparte was the answer to Europes needs and says that the coup dà ©tat of Brumaire saved France  [vii]  . Banks disagrees with popular belief on Napoleons despotic and authoritative ways by disagreeing on the context of which certain events are interpreted. While Jefferson views Napoleon as a despot who is ruling a country through means of authority and rejecting the basis of which the Revolution was founded by crowning himself emperor, B anks interprets his same event in a different context. He says that there was a need to reestablish the monarchy and for Napoleon to crown himself Emperor since French people were not fit for a republican or for a representative government, as well as the fact that if he had not done this, the Bourbons would have got power and would have brought the return of the old clergy and nobility with privileges  [viii]  . Here there is seen a disagreement on the interpretation of Napoleons decision to accept the title of Emperor, one which is in favor of Napoleon representing the ideals of the Revolution, and the other on him rejecting them. By solving conflict between the state and the Church and being in favor of religious toleration, and therefore promoting Revolution ideas and concepts, Napoleon Bonaparte proved to be an extension of the French Revolution. The Concordat of 1805 was an agreement between the Pope and Napoleon, which created a harmonious relationship between the two by granting the Church the title of the majority religion, rather than state religion, in France  [ix]  . By maintaining peace between the two, Bonaparte promoted the idea of religious toleration and freedom domestically in France. He contributed to creating a peaceful social society in France and helped many non-Catholics. Bonaparte used nationalism as a revolutionary force, which was impatient of all traditional practices of Catholics and the Church of Rome and granted Protestants and Jews religious freedom, along with encouraging them to transition into French society and identify themselves as French people  [x]  . This document, therefore, embodies the idea of equality and freedom. Napoleon did not fail to recognize that Catholicism was the majority religion in France, however, he did not disregard others either. He allowed them to practice their religion through religious toleration and even promoted the Protestants and Jews to integrate into French culture in return for equality, uniformity and individual freedoms of religion and culture. Bonaparte, then, extended the French Revolution by making peace with the Pope, solving conflict between the state and the Church through the signing of the Concordat of 1801 and supporting religious freedoms. Napoleon Bonaparte was an extension to the French Revolution, as he domestically promoted Revolution ideas in France. Through the rationalization of the education system in France, he continued to maintain Revolution ideas such as the abolition of privilege and the implementation of jobs and careers based on meritocracy. Under the rule of Napoleon, the education system of France was reformed to meet the standards of a post-revolutionary time period. The Napoleonic reforms of the public education system created institutions, which made the sciences a permanent part of the curriculum  [xi]  . These institutions helped promote education and learning on a wider scale than previous education systems. He also established lycà ©es, or high schools, in every major town for the training to civil servants and army officers, a school in Paris to train teachers in teaching and the curriculum and a national university to be at the top of this whole system  [xii]  . The establishment of t hese institutions reinforced the reforms that were being fought for during the French Revolution, such as the elimination of privilege in order to create a fair and equal society. Similar to the enforcement of merit in the military and government sector, these educational institutions allowed the social ladder to be eliminated and for individuals, regardless of class or wealth, could have positions of authority. There were the types of reforms that were widely recognized in France, seeing Bonaparte as a man who was extending the Revolution through reinforcing the ideas which people scarified their life for in their society. Not only are the institutions set up by Napoleon Bonaparte, embodying the French Revolution ideas and core beliefs, still influential in France, but also the rest of the world. Therefore, Bonaparte was an extension of the French Revolution, and managed this through the domestic reforms he brought to the education system. Bonaparte also extended the French Revolution domestically within France through the implement of the Code Napoleon, which embodied many Revolution ideas and enforced them as a law to which everyone in France is subject to. This is said to be Napoleons most significant contribution of France, as he provided them with a legal code, which was founded on two main principles, uniformity and individualism  [xiii]  . This code promoted various types of rights and freedoms, granting them both for the individual and for the collective, to ensure that everyone is subject to these laws equally. In Book I: Of Persons, of the Civil Code, Napoleon introduced Revolutionary ideas such as freedom of religion and the abolition of feudalism, as well as property rights and other rights and freedoms  [xiv]  . The introduction and establishment of this civil code lead to a more egalitarian society, which is what the French Revolution wanted. A core, fundamental concept of the Revolution is equali ty, and through all the reforms made in the Code, Bonaparte is preserving equality and promoting liberty. Nevertheless, Napoleon did not stop here. He created seven legal codes in total, including a criminal code, which reinforced many revolutionary ideas such as equality before the law and outlawing arbitrary arrest and imprisonment  [xv]  . These constitutional changes were made in the presence of Napoleon himself, who personally supervised the meetings and contributed to the writing of the Code. This affirmed all Revolution ideas, such as liberty, fraternity and equality, and created a structure that continues to be followed today by many European countries, including France. Napoleon Bonaparte was a revolutionary leader who extended the French Revolution through legal reforms and the creation a Civil Code that embodies Revolution concepts such as equality and liberty. Not only did Napoleon Bonaparte domestically extend the ideas of the French Revolution in France, he also continued it externally, on an international scale through promotion and enforcement of the core ideas of the Revolution. In a quest to create a new balance of power in the global sphere, Bonaparte introduced a model for a federation of states, motivated by French Revolution ideals and their extension and implementation internationally. He remodeled the map by creating territorial changes in western and central Europe in order to establish a new balance of power, which included the idea of the federation of states  [xvi]  . Although many people argue otherwise, this design was not for international global governance under Bonaparte. Rather, it focused on preserving peace and collectivity amongst the nation-states of the world. His aim was to see authoritative political systems such as principalities, oligarchies and aristocracies of Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Italy rem oved  [xvii]  . All these political systems enforced strict policies and limited equality and liberty. These concepts, however, are at the core of the French Revolution. Liberty frees individuals from strict imposed authority and grants equalities and freedoms. By removing these strict systems in which there is single-person authoritative rule from an individual who is limiting freedoms and rights, or rule by a group of wealthy citizens who center all the power in their self-interests, Napoleon wanted to see universal liberty and equality. He would do this through his idea of the federation of states. Although this was not implemented, Napoleon did, however, manage to redefine some borders and implement French policies in the countries he conquered. Therefore, through the promotion of the liberty and equality on an international scale by aiming to create a federation of states, Napoleon Bonaparte extended the French Revolution and its ideas externally. As mentioned above, Napoleon managed to implement French policies on an external scale, in foreign countries that he conquered, which quickened the spread ideas of the French Revolution and lead to its extension under Bonaparte. Through Bonapartes various military conquests, aspects of France were seen embodied in the conquered countries, which were then under the control of Napoleon Bonaparte. He not only extended the French Revolution in France, but also took it to a higher level through the creation of the Constitution of the Duchy of Warsaw for the Polish state he conquered. Poles counted on Napoleon to promote the Polish cause and help them gain freedoms and rights by reconstituting the Polish state through his entry into the former territories of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth  [xviii]  . The plea of the Polish to be granted equalities and to be freed from unfair laws was heard by Napoleon. The new constitution that Napoleon gave the Duchy of Warsaw demanded that donati ons be freed of taxes, property taxes be decreased, abolished serfdom and removed the existing class structure which existed between the nobility and peasants  [xix]  . The abolition of slavery and social classes, as well as tax and property changes, are all ideas which exist in the Code Napoleon which include equality, liberty, and other freedoms and rights. These are the fundamental ideas of the French Revolution that were embedded into the Constitution for the Polish. Therefore, Napoleon Bonaparte externally spread French Revolution ideas that were imposed through the Constitution of the Duchy of the Warsaw and extended the Revolution on an international scale. By resisting conflict and threats from outsiders, Napoleon extended the French Revolution on an international scale. Britain was Frances worst enemy since they had a powerful navy, military, lots of wealth and industry  [xx]  . When Napoleon Bonaparte took the throne and named himself emperor, he enforced many Revolution ideas in France. This was seen as a threat to Britain, as the increasing stability and order Bonaparte was bringing to France was helping him restore their power and grow stronger. Therefore, Britain wanted to restore the Bourbon dynasty, which would have brought back the old clergy and nobility with their privileges  [xxi]  . This was the reason the French Revolution had begun in the first place, therefore, allowing this to happen would have betrayed the Revolution. Bonaparte, therefore, resisted threats from Britain and had great victories, such as the War of the Third Coalition in 1805, in order to maintain the ideas of the French Revolution In a letter fr om to his brother on April 1, 1815, when exiled onto the island of Elba, Napoleon Bonaparte discussed the unsuitability of a forcible dynasty such as the Bourbons one on the French people and since they refused to associate with the national feelings and customs, France was forced to abandon them and accept him as a liberator  [xxii]  . He, himself, acknowledges that his actions were done for the benefit of the French people. If he had not resisted external threats from Great Britain, the ideas embodied and introduced in the French Revolution would have been removed and the Old Regime would be restored by the Bourbon dynasty. However, Bonaparte stopped the replacement of his new government and title as Emperor by managing conflict with Great Britain and withstanding their threat. Through the resisting of conflict, Napoleon Bonaparte extended the French Revolution by preserving its ideas and protecting them being abolished through a restoration of a Bourbon dynasty with the help from Britain. By promoting and implementing ideas like liberty, equality and fraternity in French society, Napoleon Bonaparte extended the French Revolution during his governance as Emperor, which then leads to the reinforcement of concepts that were born during the Revolution such as collective and individual rights and freedoms. Reforms to France on both an external and domestic scale were made by Bonaparte in order to preserve the French Revolution. Through his model of the federation of states and remodeling of the map, integrating French policies and laws in foreign countries on an international scale, and resisting threats from outsides to ensure that there a return to the Bourbon dynasty, Napoleon Bonaparte extended the French Revolution on an international scale. Not only did he extend the Revolution externally, he also made domestic reforms inside France, such as signing the Concordat in order to create peace and good relationships between the state and church and to allow religious toler ance, giving France a civil code known as the Code Napoleon to promote ideas of individual and collective equality and liberty, and the reforms to the education system which abolished privilege and promoted meritocracy. Although there are many ways to argue that Napoleon was a betrayal, conclusion or extension of the Revolution, it is all a matter of weighing the actions and policies enforced under his reign. There were many mistakes made, as there is always in history, but this does not change the fact that there were reforms made during the Napoleonic era, which extended concepts and ideas such as equality, fraternity and liberty of the French Revolution. Napoleon Bonapartes reforms to France such as the set up of educational institutions and the Code Napoleon are still seen to influence the world today and will continue to do so through the years. Actions he did and policies he implemented became a stepping-stone for future generations.

I interview my friend, Tim F. Mr. F was born on January 08, 1976 Cleveland, Ohio to M. J. and J. F. Mr. F. prefers to be addressed as Tim. He is mixed, Tim’s mother is mixed with black and white and his father is black. His dad left them when he was twelve years old but still came around every now and again. She remarried when he was eighteen. He is an African American male at the age of twenty-eight. He came from a middle class family, but his had more money than she leaded him believe. He was an only child but he had plenty aunt and uncles to go around. His mother came from a big family. She had three older brothers, two younger sisters and a younger brother. She was the middle child. Having three older brothers they always were harder on her she said, because she was the oldest of the younger girls. That’s why he felt that his mother was so hard on him. Mr. F is a kind-hearted person. I thought I knew Mr. F very well until I did this interview. He showed a side that I never knew he had. Mr. F attends New Harvest Church. Mr. F currently stays here in Montgomery, Alabama with his daughter Nicole. Instead of going to college Mr. F joined the Marines at the age of twenty-three. He wanted to make a better life for his self because he said that he was going to end up dead or in jail and that is two places that he did not want to be. Mr. F felt like the Marines would be the best route to not only developing him into manhood but also providing him with the best thing to do. â€Å"I wanted to be a better person and open up doors of opportunity for myself. I wanted to provide for my family, buy a house and be able to live comfortably. During the four years he was in the Marines, Mr. F traveled thought the United States and around the world to Japan, Australia, Korea, Panama and the Philippines while traveling he was available to get numerous certification in computer programming.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Mr. F lives in Town Lakes in Montgomery, Alabama upper class area. He is one of a few black neighbors in the whole neighborhood. Sometimes he feels that he should have not moved out there, because he wants his daughter to feel what it is like to not be handed everything in life. Mr. F loves his daughter to no end, but Nicole’s mother on the other hand, he say he could just live without. Mr. F weakness is he gives into his daughter too easily. As a child Mr. F he often found himsel... ...the question. That is one thing that I feel that I did not do enough of, is to keep on and stay on track of the answering of certain questions. He had seemed to be in a fun mood the day we did the interview. Earlier that week he and his mother got into a disagreement about something. He did not say what it was at the time but now I know it was because Mrs. J-F was upset because she has not seen her grand-daughter in almost a year. I was pleased to that he agreed to do the interview, after having a bad week earlier. When I told him that I would be video taping him he was ecstatic. He was in a playful mood. I listened to everything my client had to say and wanted to say. I also took notes on some things that we should have talked about in our next meeting. I showed good body language to my client. He knew I was paying attention to him because I was nodding my head and restating some of his comments to him answer. Some of the things I need to work on would be is to just let him continue talking and not cut him off so much. I feel that because Mr. F and I are very good fri ends and that is why I feel that cut him off so much, but I think I can and will do much better next time.

An Inspector Calls Although the play an â€Å"Inspector Calls† by J.B. Priestley, takes the form of a â€Å"Whodunit†, it gradually becomes clear that there is an underlying serious issue. The play examines social responsibility, with the Birling family and Gerald Croft being questioned about the suicide of Eva Smith. When the inspector arrives at the Birling estate uninvited he suspects the family of being some way involved in the events leading up to the death of Eva Smith. The Inspector describes Eva Smith as †A young woman†¦. A bit out of the ordinary†¦Ã¢â‚¬  As the story unfolded my feelings of sympathy for Eva grew stronger and stronger. This is surprising as she does not appear in the play and is in fact dead before the play begins. The Inspector starts his inquiry by questioning Mr. Birling who is the owner of a large company, which employs several hundred young girls. Mr. Birling describes Eva who was one of his employees as â€Å"a lively good-looking girl-country bred† he continues to say that she had been working for the company for over a year and that she was an excellent worker. Mr. Birling describes Eva and some of her work colleagues as being â€Å"rather restless† after the summer vacation; this resulted in them demanding a pay rise of an increase from twenty-two and six to twenty five shillings a week. Mr. Birling dismissed this completely, which resulted in the workers going on strike. Mr. Birling took action and sacked the ringleaders, Eva Smith being one of them. At this point I did not feel any sympathy for Eva as I felt she had brought these problems on herself. Mr. Birling was right to take the action, which he did. This was the start of a down ward spiral for Eva Smith. Eva’s fortunes changed, however, as in a couple of months she found herself a new job at the large department store, Milwards. Eva was delighted with her new job which made her the happiest she had been in a long time. â€Å"She was among pretty clothes.† The Inspectors line of inquiry turned to Mr. Birling’s daughter, Sheila. He wanted to try and establish her involvement in the death of Eva Smith. Sheila used Milwards store regularly. Sheila was out shopping for the perfect dress. After many fruitless visits to other stores Sheila finally decided to try Milwards. She demanded to try a particular dress on, against her mother’s advice. After trying it on she realized to her horror that ... ...ney he had already given her was stolen and she did not want any more of his money. Mrs. Birling said this was terrible and a public example should be made of him. At this point Eric Birling walked in the door he looked around and said, â€Å"You know, don’t you?† Eric then continues to explain that one night in the Palace bar he got talking to Eva, he then walked her home to her lodgings and after a fuss he went in with her. After two weeks they met up again. It was not planned but again they went home to her house. At their next meeting she told him she was pregnant. He supported her with money, which totalled about 50 pounds. When asked where he got this money, he explained that he had stolen it from his father’s office.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Through out the play my feelings for Eva grew and by the end I really felt for her. The Birling family had contributed to Eva losing her two jobs, she had two failed relationships when put like this you begin to see why she needed help and when this was refused you can begin to see why she wanted to end her life. I feel that the whole family contributed to her death, which makes me, feel great sympathy for Eva.

The Wisconsin Graduation Test - A Good Idea What is a test? The Webster’s New American Dictionary defines a test as â€Å"a critical examination or evaluation†. The World Book 2000 Encyclopedia defines testing as â€Å"an attempt to measure a person’s knowledge, intelligence, or other characteristics in a systematic way†. The Wisconsin 2004 freshmen will have to take a graduation test in order to graduate their senior year. They have four chances to pass the graduation examination. This paper will explain how the current requirements for graduating compare to the graduation standardized test. Included are the obstacles that are involved with implementing the test, group and individual opinions concerning the graduation test, and a recent survey of people involved with the test. The graduation requirements at most high schools are similar to the graduation test standards in many content areas. To graduate, a student needs to complete four credits of English, three credits of social studies, two credits of mathematics, and two credits of science. (Misky) The four credits of English include instruction in written and oral communication, grammar and usage of the English language, and literature. (Misky) This is similar to the test, which measures reading, literature, writing, language, media and technology, and research and inquiry. (Wisconsin) The three credits of Social Studies cover instruction in state and local government. (Misky) The test includes geography, history, politics, economics, and behavioral sciences. (Wisconsin) The two credits of math provide instruction in the properties, processes, and symbols of arithmetic, and elements of algebra, geometry, and statistics. (Misky) The test contains mathematical processes, number operations and relations hips, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability, and algebraic relationships. (Wisconsin) The two credits of science incorporate Physical science and Life science. (Misky) The test provides science connections, nature of science, science inquiry, Physical science, Earth and Space science, Life and Environmental science, science applications, and science in personal and social perspectives. (Wisconsin) In most cases the categories are equivalent with each other. The categories that fall short will just have to be propelled or altered to fit the test. The decision to have a graduation test or not met with a great deal of resistance. One of the largest problems was the parents’ perspective on the test. The parents didn’t want their kids to take the test because of the high risk of failure. Another problem group was the legislators.

Are Curfews Fair to Juveniles Essay

Cities across the United States have imposed curfews on juveniles for many years. Teen curfew laws restrict the hours that juveniles may be on the streets or in public places at night (Sutphen and Ford). Some people consider curfews infringing on people’s constitutional rights. Curfews are hard to implement by law enforcement, and, in fact, take law enforcement away from more serious crimes. More crimes occur during daytime hours and more children are victimized in their homes than on the streets. Although curfews are made to protect our juveniles and to deter crime by juveniles, does imposing these curfews violate the juvenile’s civil rights and target the true underlying problems involved in enforcing these issues? People have a right to personal freedoms, including juveniles, but curfews take away some personal freedoms of juveniles. A 16-year-old en route to a fast-food restaurant is stopped and questioned five times, by five different police officers (Davidson). Even though this teen had no intension of any mischief, he or she was stopped five times. When a juvenile transitions from a child to an adult they are required to take on more responsibilities, curfews limit them as they make the transition into adulthood. This hinders the juvenile from making adult decisions. Youth curfews use the idea of childhood based on innocence/ignorance, passivity and dependence, in order to prevent young people from crossing the boundary into adulthood before society deems them ready (O’Neil). Most parents want the freedom to choose how to raise their children and what values they want to instill in their children. If the state leaves guidance in the hands of the parents, they can monitor their child’s development and gradually increase her liberty and responsibility by allowing her to experience new situations and to make choices as she develops into an adult (Assessing the Scope if Minors’ Fundamental Rights: Juvenile Curfews and the Constitution). Curfews stifle the personal freedoms of juveniles. The enforcement of curfews presents even more reasons to abolish curfews. It is hard for law enforcement to enforce curfews and curfew violations are not taken seriously. Juvenile curfews will not stop young people who are intent on committing crime, in part, because the penalties for a curfew violation are not that serious (O’Neil). There are also limited police officers to help with the enforcement of curfews. Because of the curfews, it takes the police away from more serious crime that are happening in cities across the United States. The enforcement of juvenile curfews is hard to put into effect, and there are limited police officers to enforce these curfews, which are often not even taken seriously. Crimes by juveniles occur more often during the day than at night. When either both parents work, or there is a single parent household, juveniles must come home from school alone. Since juveniles are left unsupervised, they sometimes commit crimes and these crimes usually occur during the day. Those opposed to curfews replied that most juvenile crimes occurred in daylight hours, that most children were not criminals, and that many legitimate nocturnal activities were being suppressed (Juvenile Curfews and the Major Confusion Over Minor Rights). Since most juvenile crimes occur during the day, why should a curfew be imposed on juveniles? One of the main reasons juvenile curfews were imposed, was to protect the juveniles from the dangers that could occur during the late hours of the night. Although many feel curfews protect juveniles from these dangers, many times that is not the case. Many juveniles are victimized in their own homes. Critics argue that because many juvenile crimes occur during the day and most juvenile victimization occurs at home, nighttime curfews fail to target the worst problems (Juvenile Curfews and the Major Confusion Over Minor Rights). Although juvenile curfews were put in place to protect children, the streets are not always the places where children are victimized. Most large cities in the United States impose juvenile curfews. Juveniles have rights to the personal freedoms their parents allow and the government needs to let the parents raise their children without interference. Because most juvenile crimes are committed during the day, and since curfews restrict night time activities, we should abolish these curfews. Curfews also take law enforcement officers away from more serious crimes. Curfews were made to protect juveniles and to deter juvenile crime, but since most juveniles are victimized at home and most juvenile crimes are committed during the day, curfews are ineffective and should be abolished.

The Global Flow of Silver

The flow of silver affected the world through the mid 16th & early 18th century in many ways. When countries had more silver, there was less bartering & more slavery. People traded less because they could just buy what they needed. Economically, more power was given to countries with more money which is called Mercantilism. Documents 3 & 5 are reflecting on social change and how silver altered the way the Chinese lived. In document 1, it talks about the frugal man will always have something left but the extravagant man never has enough, this is showing how wealth makes people greedy & the government trying to maintain order by putting limits on wedding expenses. The point of view of this document is of a county official during the Ming dynasty who is under the Confucius value of frugality, making the document biased because he was against the capitalistic values of the extravagant man. Document 3 talks about how the elders of a specific district explain why the price of food is cheap because the scarcity of silver because the national government isn’t distributing silver back to society, but makes it part of tax. I believe that this is biased because he was a court official and this relates to problems within his own community. Document 2 & 4 is about the effect of silver in Spain. Document 2 states that high prices of Asian goods ruined Spain economically, meaning Spain would need more silver to pay for them. Document 4 says that since Spain needed more silver, they traded their goods such as perfume, gold, porcelain and white silk to Japan. Document 7 is about how they usually trade good for good but with foreigners its good for silver because they would sell it for more than its actually worth. Document 7 was biased because He Qiaoyuan was a Ming Dynasty court official & he didn’t want to ban foreign trade, so he was defending it saying that they could make more from it. Documents 6 & 8 are about social effects. Document talks about how hard they have to work to excavate silver. Document 8 is about how they were replaced in the space trade by the Dutch and they had to trade dyed cotton cloth, silks, drugs, cotton yarn and wool. Document 6 is biased because Antonio Vazquez de Espinosa was a Spanish priest and he didn’t work in the fields to excavate silver, so he really didn’t have 1st hand knowledge of that. Silver changed countries socially and economically. It had major effects in Spain and because of mercantilism they had to trade goods for silver. Economically, they needed more silver and they had to cut down prices and get more goods to get more silver.

Trauma Informed Care Trauma informed care pertains to organization or programs that services individuals who have survived a traumatic experience. These individuals or survivors are those who have been physically and/or sexually abuse and other experiences that leads to trauma. Organizations that help people with this condition, alters and adjusts in order to keep an understanding on how trauma affects the individual seeking for help (SAMHSA National Mental Health Information Center). Theories in Social Work â€Å"Theories have been developed since it became clear that there were similar patterns or repeating cycles of behaviour both in an individuals life and in the lives of lots of different people (Towland, 2010). † There are a lot of theories or ideas on how to go about social work and how to do the practice for both professionals and students taking up this course. According to Towland in his essay on â€Å"Social Work Theory and Practice Making the Links† a theory is seen to help describe what is happening, explain why it is happening and predict what will happen next. Working with the developmentally disabled is a challenging task for me and this may not be my strongest area and point because of my lack of patience and experience on this particular field. But although this maybe the case, being able help children and being able to understand the reasons of their trauma and finding ways to help them grow out of their trauma is gratify in to me because I know I am able to give aide to these people. Explaining to the family and being able to give them light and understanding of their child’s or children’s situation and what might be the good and bad consequences of the treatment fulfills me as a social worker. My professional philosophy is shaped by not just what was passed on to me by my parents and mentors, but is and was shaped by my experiences and what I have seen in life. Texting Essay Texting. (IF) It is the new age way of communicating. With this new way to communicate new problems have arisen. People are texting while talking to others or while others are talking to them. Which brings up the question is it wrong? While many people think that it is wrong they may find themselves doing it on occasion. It is very easy to just say it is wrong without even looking at the other side of the argument. Surely it is acceptable to text in some situations. well it is not acceptable to text while you are talking to someone else. Let us compare a texting conversation to a real conversation. If one was trying to talk to someone but he or she was also talking to someone else, it would be impossible for that person to be completely engaged in both conversations. This is just like texting. How can a person be fully engaged in any conversation while they are having a texting conversation with someone else? Also one wouldn’t even be fully focused on the conversation one is having over text when one is talking to someone else. That is just being rude to two people at once. Not only is texting while in conversation with someone else rude it is rude in other scenarios too. It would be considered rude in a movie theater, during a play, or on a date especially if one is not the one paying for these things. Imagine that you have just invited someone to go to the movies and you decided to pay. How would you feel if the person you paid for is texting during the movie? That person is conveying that they aren’t enjoying the movie that you spent money on them to see. Many people also use texting to act like they are better than other people. Most any teenager would say that when a situation gets â€Å"awkward† they will pull out there phone and either pretend to text or actually text. This can be found rude because when one pulls out there phone to avoid a certain situation, or to act like they have something better to do while a situation is happening. By avoiding situations because of texting one showing that one thinks they are above what is happening, and that they cannot be involved in a situation like that because it is too â€Å"awkward. † An example of this kind of situation is when you are walking down the hallway and someone else is walking the opposite direction and they start looking at you. Instead of saying, â€Å"Hi,† or giving them a smile people will resort to pulling out there phone and acting like they are texting. What makes you better than the other person walking down the hallway? Why can’t you just say, â€Å"Hi,† or give them a smile? Those are not hard things to do but people will think they are better than other people and just completely ignore that other person. On the other hand many people would say that texting is very convenient and allows someone to get information to someone else. This is very true. Texting is handy to have when one needs to give someone else some quick information such as what time something starts or something of that sort. Texting is not always used for sharing information though. According to a recent interview about texting, there are two kinds of texts: spreading information and conversation. (Burrow) Texting for information is not rude if it is an emergency or something like that but when texting turns to conversation and one is texting to avoid people, avoid situations, or while someone else is taking then it becomes rude. Any conversation that you have over text can just as easily be done over the phone on a phone call when you have time to focus on the conversation. In an article from the Salem News this idea was brought up to not be rude if you need to send an important text during a conversation just excuse oneself for a minute to check and respond to the text just like you would with a phone call. Finally texting during class is one of the most disrespectful things one can do to a teacher. Teachers choose to be teachers so they should be treated with the utmost respect because they are providing an education to teens and that is one of the most important things anyone will need in life. By texting during class one is showing the teacher that they think they are more important than what she is saying. This is simply not the case because education will take one somewhere in life not a texting conversation that you have to hide from the teacher. Texting distracts one from learning, and when one is texting they have to refocus back to what they were doing. According to a study, tasks that are interrupted seem more difficult and take longer to complete. (Cohen) Texting is flat out rude. There are ways to text someone if it is really important by simply asking to be excused so you can text, but to just text in someone’s face while they are talking to you is just rude. Texting to avoid situations is also rude because you are letting other people know that you think you are better than them and that is just mean. Texting during class is just dumb because you miss out on things you need to know for your life. So next time you go to text during class, while someone is talking to you, or to avoid a situation just think about what you are doing and realize that it is rude.

It is depicted that television industry is not taking the issue seriously, just like the affected newspaper industry, they bragged on the basis of their revenues and earnings. Now before proceeding further, there comes a question across the mind that either the television industry cannot perceive that challenge or they want to close their eyes. Basically there are brain barriers and because of these barriers we cannot judge the right path and if judge then we cannot follow that path, we can quote the example of Motorola and Nokia in this regard. Again comes to the point that what is the ground behind this topic. Everyone looks for ease and for its wellbeing, so he/she always prefer, who becomes able to take care and fulfill his/her demands. Business models on which television industry works from its existence is that there must be no other option for the people besides the television for entertainment purposes. Now as the videos and documentaries are the basis on the base of which television industry makes business, so they ever never wants that these contents must be available from some other source. There must be no alternative other than television for employers to advertize their products. Cable operators are allowed to transmit their programs. Besides this all television companies made check points in the path of cables and they spend a lot of money in order to make it sure that either all the restrictions are followed at that check points or not. Now look at the other side a lot of new options are available for the people for entertainment and creativity purposes on the internet. As on the internet mini games are available and besides this many social sites are present on the internet and on these sites you become interconnect with a lot of people belonging from all the regions, cultures and religions of the world. On these social sites you share your views and ideas with your friends and with the other people and have a lot more fun than just seeing the programs on the television. Because here you receives a sudden response of your thoughts and the questions raised in your minds from the people you care for. Beside this a lot more things are available on these sites for passing time and making fun, these sites are like Facebook, Tagged, Orkut etc. All the programs dramas and television shows are now available on the internet on the sites like YouTube, Googlevideo, Hulu, Netflix etc. On television there is restriction that everyone has to watch the program on its time and if time passed then you cannot watch that particular episode of that drama. But on the internet there is no time scheduling, whenever you have some time free and you want to have some entertainment then sit in front of your computer system and log onto the desired site and see the episode that you want or whatever other you want to see. Besides this many other videos like movies and shows are uploaded on the internet and if not bragging then whatever you want is available on the internet. If we come from entertainment side to education side then also there is no competitor that provides more help to the students. All type of books, scholarly articles, research papers and software are present on the internet. It can be said that someone using internet finds all he/she wants from education point of view to entertainment point of view, theres no need to go here and there. If simply said then there is no need to run behind the useless options. Keeping in view all these factors television industry responds to this situation by taking some turns, like the viewers should have choice and their views gets importance that which program they want to see and which not. Time schedule of the admired shows are changed so that they will be played on that time on which most of the viewer ship is available. Television industry owners start a plan that every program that runs on the television set is made available for downloading and available up to 24 hours. Educational programs are s tarted that also constitute video libraries and scholars guidance online. But besides this, who wants to pay such high licensing fees for television sets, whereas they do not have to see all the programs, in the Finland the licensing fee is betwixt 224.30 to 232.20 euro per month. Because of Satellite technology internet is available all over the world. Therefore, why someone restrict his/herself to see only 5, 10 or 50 channels? Now no matter where you are, either you are in home or you are travelling, you can see millions of television channels on your mobile set. It cannot be said that the producers or fun creators are demolished, because if they have talent and capabilities then they can post their creations to YouTube and make money, and many of the people do that. NO doubt that television remains as a decoration piece for the bed rooms, guest rooms and it considers as a symbol that provides a time in which all the members of a family sit together and watch the program but now internet gradually makes television existence unnecessary in the homes. One of the main reasons that why people love internet or give internet priority over the television is because of time. Somehow it is discussed earlier that internet can be used according to the time schedule that you made but television cannot be watched according to your time schedule. You should have to change your time table according to the programs you want to watch on the television. This is a big reason, we live in the age of machines and to exist in this world everyone have to behave like a machine otherwise someone other push him aside and takes his/her place. So in this busy schedule no one have enough time to spare in order to watch the television program and feel free. But besides this incase of internet, whenever he/she found some extra or spare time he/she sit in front of personal computer and log onto his/her desired site and watch what he/she wants to see or read newspapers, journals, blogs, play games and many other things to do. On these sites like hulu, every episode of every show that runs on the television is present. Recording shows present on these sites unlike on the television in which many commercials are present that makes the mood off, includes some commercials not with more than thirty second play time. According to a common observation YouTube is considered better among the people or viewers as compares to the television. Now, why it is better? It is better because just on one site everyone can find, whatever he/she wants. On this site every type of video include music programs, recorded and live programs of every singer, dramas and fashion shows in short all that, someone can thinks of is in front of him/her. Then who goes and sit in front of television to see the program. Every program that runs on television, after sometime usually less than one and a half day is posted and can be seen on the YouTube. Internet no doubt adversely affects the television industry, because televisions programs are present on their sites, on some sites you can see live television channels. Now when something is available all the time on the internet and everyone is sure about this, then who view that program on the television. So television industries acclaim their rights. On television most of the programs are telecasted two or three times for the viewers that who cannot see the program one time can see it again. But now if that program is found on the internet sites before its repeat telecast on the television then who see that episode. Now when the advertising companies, who give their adds to the television industries for the advertisement comes to know that this television has no viewership then they take their ads back from them and give to others. So it is a matter to worry about because no ads means no money to the television companies from this side and they cannot survive on the license fees. Internet is becoming a platform for the international businesses today and millions of ads are present on the internet on various sites. On the internet illegal or corrupt businesses is on its peak. There are lots of techniques available to cheat the people on the internet, because on internet you are not face to face with the people, whom you in contact and you can easily deceive the other person. The u torrents and bit torrents sites from which people download movies are illegal sites that cause damage to the film and television industry in millions of dollars. Because earlier when movies are released then people watched that movie in the cinema, on television and after that they purchased compact discs and digital video discs to see the movie. But now majority of the people do not go cinema and wait that when it is available on the internet. Similarly television sites available on the internet basically steal the data from televisions and illegally posted it on the internet. So te levision industries want that there must be restrict copyright laws and no one can dare to forbid those laws. Digital Rights Management (DRM) scheme is established and television industry invested a lot of money on this but no gain. This scheme restricts downloads from the illegal television sites but in spite of all this television industry squander billions of dollars because of piracy. Besides all this if television industry has to survive, then they should build their own site on which one can see the live programs. And all the programs that are being played, their saved copies must be present on the site, so that if someone misses that particular episode then they can watch it on some other time. Advertisements should be less and of short duration during the drama or show because it takes away all the charm. Advertisements must be creative that gains the attention of everyone and no one get bored. The dramas and shows must be consists of less episodes, and the time and routine of programs must be arranged by the people who go into the communities and perceive ideas from the viewers that on which time which program should be telecasted. In order to protect their selves, owners of television industries must have to take all matters seriously and be keen to sort out solution for these problems otherwise this mighty flood of internet sweep away all of them. In last it is concluded that, internet destroying the television. Internet offers so much diversity that no one can leave it. Internet becomes the need of time; everyone who wants to succeed in this life must have solid know how about internet. Internet gains the attention of people from all walks of life just because of its diversity. A student gets notes, books, research papers and a lot more knowledge regarding his/her particular subject on the internet. A businessman can found a lot of skills, techniques and paths to improve his/her business. Nowadays online business moves forward to wrap the whole world. Similarly musicians, and for those who just login to entertain their selves, internet equips all what they need. So in short it can be said that oneself sit in front of his/her personal computer and open the internet interface then he/she explore whole new world, in which he/she can visit wherever he/she wants. Now there is so much charm present in it that you lost yourself when you use internet. More precisely it can be said that people become internet worms. Whereas in case of television, it cannot be said that television has no popularity but its popularity is decreasing day by day and might be the reason is that people gets the alternative path. Because this is the nature of human beings that wherever they see some more lightening they go there. Similar is the case here, as discussed above that television has no such type of options, as offered by the internet. So people use internet because whatever they see on the television is now available on the internet, but the videos, information and options available on the internet is not in television. So automatically the side of internet becomes heavy. And gradually internet took away the business of television industries. But internet is just like a sea in which all sort of information, and all type of videos either they are good or not present. Now it is on the users that how much he/she is mature. For example internet offers option of chat and various sites allowed this as MSN, Yahoo, Facebook, Tagged and soft-wares like Skype and many more. But it depends on a particular person that he/she used these benefits in the positive way or not, like he/she interacts with his/her colleagues or classmates for discussing something relating to business or education, or he/she only chitchat with others or make others fool. This is behind approach to discuss pros and cons of internet in this paper, but just to make it clear that no doubt television industry is destroyed by the internet, but everything can be seen from two perspectives, and after seeing both sides one must have to decide that either this is wrong or not. Television industry besides some disadvantages has the advantage that all the programs telecasted on it are watchable with family members and as no one can change their schedule therefore habit to manage time is developed. And as no one can proceed forward or backward the program according to his/her will, so a sense is developed that it is impossible that everything in the life is according to our will so we have to control ourselves.
